Caves at Maiom

Caves at Maiom, New Ireland. P1287004

New Ireland is largely upthrust coral so the foundation of the island is limestone. It is full of caves, and hollows, and underground waterways and springs. This cave at Maiom is connected with the sea several kilometers away.

There is an underwater spring on the sea edge in Kavieng town. People love to swim and wash in the salt water then drift into the cold fresh water to rinse.

We can take you to the caves for a visit or you can go there as part of a Taxi Tour program.
